Jaysankar Lal Shaw, Department of Philosophy, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, has published widely on both comparative and Indian Philosophy. He has covered a wide range of topics, such as knowledge, belief, doubt, sources of knowledge, cognition of cognition, mind and mental states, meaning, condition for understanding the meaning, proper names, indexicals, descriptions, negation, subject and predicate, existence, causality, number, harmony and freedom.


Jaysankar’s knowledge of classical Indian as well as Western Philosophy enables him to propose new ways of resolving some of the problems of contemporary Western Philosophy. He has also suggested how to solve some age-old problems of Western Philosophy by using the techniques of classical Indian Philosophy.
